A Symbol of Excellence

The Melaka Chief Minister Award (CMA) was first introduced in 2003. The CMA is given out bi-yearly to organizations in recognition for their achievement in business excellence. Since 2005, the CMA assessment is based directly on the Prime Minister Quality Award criteria and is a public-private endeavour of the state.

This must be demonstrated through the transition of leadership plans into actions, creation of customer value, and the established framework of human systems and processes to make it possible. Winning the award is a prestigious accomplishment, as the CMA is a symbol of Performance Excellence. The trophy will be presented by the Chief Minister of Melaka during the Award Ceremony.

The award is given to organizations that achieve the qualifying standard of all the collectively meets the standards of the award.


Objectives

The Chief Minster Award is given to:

  • promote Quality Awareness amoing various organizations in the state
     
  • promote the adoption of Quality values in organizations
     
  • encourage healthy competition amongst the successful organizations towards continuous improvement of quality
     
  • sharing of information on succecssful performance strategies and the benefits derived from using these strategies



Assessment Criteria

The Fundamental Excellence Concepts are embodied eight Categories, as follows:

  • Top Management Leadership and Management of Quality (20%)
     
  • Use of Quality Data & Information (10%)
     
  • Human Resource Management (15%)
     
  • Customer Focus (15%)
     
  • Quality Assurance of External Suppliers (5%)
     
  • Process Management (10%)
     
  • Quality and Operational/Business Results (20%)



Eligibility

Any organization registered under the Malaysian Companies Act 1965 and sited in Melaka is eligible to apply for this Award. The organization, however, should have contributed significantly to the Melaka economy by way of, among others, substantial economy activity, earning of foreign exchange, creation of employment, generating linkages or multiplier effects, involvement in community development projects etc.
 

  

All the participants will be provided feedback reports on strengths and areas for improvement with emphasis of using the CMA process for organizational improvement rather than just winning the Award or one of the Prizes.
